You’ll
need:
A
card table and two chairs
Face
paint, purchased or homemade (see “Make
Your Own Face Paint”)
Sponges
and paint brushes of different sizes
Rags,
tissues or wipes
Water
Hair
clips and bands
Bibs
or aprons
A
hand mirror
Design
ideas - butterflies, cats, dogs, fairies, ghosts, witches,
wizards, clowns, stars, hearts, flowers, etc.
Set
up and play:
Draw
your designs on paper so that kids can choose their
design. Use designs that do not have overlapping colors.
The paint takes time to dry and might blur if you paint
one color on top of another.
Make
stencils of basic designs to save time. Make these out
of heavy paper such as file folders.
Have
the kids select their design. Kids standing in line
can be deciding while you are painting someone else’s
face.
Tie
a bib or apron around each child. Use clips and/or a
hair band to keep long hair out of the way while you're
painting a face.
Use
brushes, sponges, or even your fingers to apply the
paint. Use a sponge to paint large areas or a base color.
Practice in advance to figure out what works best for
you.
Apply
paint in thin layers so that it will dry quickly and
avoid cracking. You can paint a second layer if desired,
to make the color darker.
Avoid
painting near the eyes. Ask the person to close their
eyes when painting anywhere near the eye area.
Avoid
getting the paint on clothes, as the coloring may stain
fabric.
